- Q. What is Extra Life printing that comes with many JetTec cartridges?
- A. The life of an Epson inkjet cartridge is determined by the printer. When the printer calculates that the cartridge is empty, it informs the chip on the cartridge it is empty. That is that!
The ink status monitor shows how much ink is contained in the cartridges. This updates as you use the cartridges via information being passed to it from the chip on the cartridge.
A cartridges life usually ends here, when the status monitor believes the cartridge(s) to be empty. You would normally have to replace the 'empty' cartridge(s) before you can continue printing.
However, Jet Tec extralife cartridges use 'smart' chip technology. When enabled, the chip's patented program activates the extralife which is displayed in the 'status monitor'. Allowing access to extra ink from the Jet Tec cartridge - NO OTHER CARTRIDGE RANGE DOES THIS.
*Some extralife cartridges may not display extralife in the status monitor
- Q. How is the Extra Life activated?
- A. When your cartridge registers 'empty' in the status monitor:
1. Cancel print job
2. Switch off printer
3. Wait 10 seconds and switch printer on again.
4. When asked if you want to continue using the installed ink cartridges, please click 'yes'.
Your print monitor will now register the extralife and you can continue printing! - Q. Information for Jet Tec E111 Extralife cartridges
- A. During the course of printing the ink level will approach about 20%, at this point the ink level in the status monitor will freeze, even though ink is being used in printing. The ink being used is the 'Extralife'. Eventually when the 'Extralife' ink has been used up the ink level will start dropping again and the exclamation mark will appear showing that the ink is getting low. Finally when the ink has all been used the red cross will appear.
- Q. Information for Jet Tec E112 Extralife cartridges
- A. If heavy printing is performed towards the end of the cartridge, users may see a message saying that the cartridge cannot be recognised instead of the normal message saying ink is out.
This message is being shown because during heavy printing, the printer does not update the ink level in the cartridge chip, causing it to give even more 'Extralife' than we quote. The printer stops the printing at a safety level before all the ink is used up, but complains by giving this other message.
Simply replace the empty cartridge in the normal manner, to remove this message.
- Q. Where can I get refill instructions for my ink cartridges?
- A. We suggest you have a look at http://www.jettecrefill.com or www.oddparts.com as both these sites have extensive refilling instructions freely available.
- Q. Information on installing the Canon 'chipped' cartridges (JetTec C25 and C26).
- A. Canon printers with cartridges that use a chip have been designed to detect non-genuine Canon products. As a result, the ink level will no longer be detected. It is important that you monitor the ink level of your new cartridge to ensure that it does not run completely dry.
NOTE: When you remove the chip ensure that it is fitted to the new corresponding colour cartridge.
1. Lift the chip from the empty ink tank.
2. Slide the chip on to the new cartridge making sure that the chip is the right way up.
3. Remove the orange clip and install the new ink cartridge. When you next print, please follow the on-screen instructions to begin using your new cartridge. - Q. Will Jet Tec compatible products invalidate my printer guarantee?
