Frequently Asked Questions

  • I have refilled, the chip resets but the printer will only
print a page and then reports a problem with the cartridge. Is the chip at fault?

If the chip is resetting then the chip is working fine. This problem is most likely caused by there being some air introduced into the cartridge when it was refilled. The printer checks the tautness of the diaphragm at the bottom of the cartridge and if there is air in the bag of the cartridge then the diaphragm can be depressed. If this is the case the printer will report a fault with the cartridge so you will have to ensure all the air is removed before proceeding

  • I have the chips but how do I refill the cartridges?

We don't provide detailed refill instructions but there are
various source on the web. www.oddparts.com/ink/help.htm is a good start and provides detailed instructions on all cartridge refilling.

  • How many times can the chip be reset?

There is no limit to the number of times you can reset the
    chip.

  • Will the chips last forever?

Essentially yes. The expiry date has been programmed to 2032
so this should ensure resetting for several years to come.

  • I have the No 363 cartridges, can these be reset?

Yes they can. You will need the appropriate chip and the HP resetter but the resetter will reset all the chips many many times. Only inject the correct amount of ink into each cartridge as overfilling will cause a problem.

These cartridges are designed to have an air buffer and injecting the cartridge full of ink will cause this air buffer to become filled with ink and stop the cartridge printing. The amount of ink required to fill from empty is:-

C8719EE HP 363 Large Black Ink Cartridge 17ml
    C8721EE HP 363 Black Ink Cartridge 6ml
    C8771EE HP 363 Cyan Ink Cartridge 4ml
    C8772EE HP 363 Magenta Ink Cartridge 3.5ml
    C8773EE HP 363 Yellow Ink Cartridge 6ml
C8774EE HP 363 Light Cyan Ink Cartridge 5.5ml
C8775EE HP 363 Light Magenta Ink Cartridge 5.5ml

  • Why do I need a replacement chip when I refill my HP cartridge?

Several new HP cartridges now have chips fitted to them. This chip "tells" the printer how much ink is left in the cartridge so if you refill your cartridge and do not reset the chip the printer will think the cartridge is still empty. Unfortunately the HP original chips cannot be reset so you need to buy a replacement, resettable chip and also a chip resetter.
